| German Soccer Stars Michael Ballack and Per Mertesacker support iThemba School in Cape Town |

German National soccer players Michael Ballack and Per Mertesacker have showed their support of iThemba, a pre primary school in a Philippi township in Cape Town. The two players have jointly sponsored 25,000 Euros (approx R225,000) that will fund the future development of the school. |

Prolific midfielder Ballack, who lead Bayern Munich towards winning three league titles and captained Germany at last year's World Cup, is currently contracted with English Premier League Chelsea. The very young professional Per Mertesacker plays in the German premier league with Werder Bremen.
The iThemba Pre-Primary School was launched in June 2006 and currently accommodates 28 children between the ages of three and six years. The young learners, whose mother tongue is Xhosa, enjoy playing and learning in a safe environment. The three years of holistic pre-school education prepares them for their advanced schooling. 140 children are currently on the waiting list to join the school.
The project was founded, financed and is managed by Lufthansa Global Telesales Cape Town and sponsored by the Help Alliance, a Lufthansa non-profit employee organisation.
"We are very excited about the involvement of Michael Ballack and Per Mertesacker. With their financial support we will be able to further develop the school in the course of next year." says Birgit Th?, Managing Director of Lufthansa Global Telesales
Cape Town, who, together with her team, is strongly involved in the day-to-day running of iThemba.
Says Michael Ballack: "We are very impressed by the holistic concept of the school. iThemba educates the children and at the same time takes care of their proper nutrition." "In 2010 South Africa will host us for the World Cup." Per Mertesacker says. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to show our interest and commitment to South Africa and its people. "
